vision, mission and values
Vision
To see a world in which the littlest equines are respected and cared for.
Mission
We are devoted to providing health, safety, and a happy, secure lifelong home for donkeys, miniature horses, ponies and miniature mules who are abused, neglected, unwanted, or whose owners are no longer able to care for them. We seek to educate the public about proper care and treatment of small equines.
Values
1. Animal Welfare
We will uphold the “Five Freedoms of Animal Welfare”:
· Freedom from Hunger and Thirst
· Freedom from Discomfort
· Freedom from Pain
· Freedom to Express Normal Behaviour
· Freedom from Fear and Distress
We will provide the best possible medical attention, hoof care and emotional wellness possible for every animal taken into the Sanctuary.
2. Right to Quality of Life
We will give to every animal in our care the best quality of life possible, providing a peaceful existence with freedom and companionship. We will provide a respectful, dignified end only when they no longer have quality of life.
3. Compassion
We seek to be compassionate to all animals in our care and to owners who surrender their animals to the Sanctuary. We will treat all animals with respect, patience, and understanding, recognizing that they do not have a voice and must communicate through behaviour.
4. Education
We recognize that the lives of animals not in our care can be improved through education. We endeavour to share our knowledge with the public to help improve quality of life of equines around the world.
5. Collaboration
We value collaboration with the RCMP, animal protection agencies and the public to provide our assistance as needed. Interactions with others are an opportunity to both learn and teach, and through collaboration, we can make the world a better place for the littlest equines.
